Drie vrouwen in ziekenhuis, waarvan één FC Utrecht speelster

FC Utrecht and UMC Utrecht focus on women’s heart health

For two seasons now, UMC Utrecht and FC Utrecht have joined forces under the banner “Wear that Band” to create awareness about measuring blood pressure. High blood pressure is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, it develops without you noticing it and often causes no symptoms at all. Therefore, it is important to keep a close eye on your own blood pressure, even if you feel well. On May 1, the campaign was launched in Stadion Galgenwaard. In the coming weeks, various initiatives will be set up around matches and in the region.

Facts

Cardiovascular diseases

Every year, more than 18,000 women die from cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. This amounts to an average of 50 women per day. It affects women of all ages, whether it is your 83-year-old mother or the 66-year-old neighbor. Diagnosing cardiovascular disease in women is more difficult than in men because women more often describe other symptoms, and may also have other causes of cardiovascular disease. In women, we more often see malfunctioning small blood vessels in the heart as a cause of heart problems while men more often develop problems in the large vessels surrounding the heart. High blood pressure is an important cause of both large and small vessels in the heart.

Ambition

Contributing to a more vital Utrecht

UMC Utrecht and FC Utrecht are jointly contributing to a more vital Utrecht, with the joint ambition of a healthy body and a healthy future for everyone. Utrecht, as a true city of women with 138 women for every 100 men, is additionally supported with our commitment to women in the region. In the 2023/2024 season, the FC Utrecht Women will be back in Stadion Galgenwaard after a period of absence. For us, therefore, together with these new role models, to inspire women in Utrecht to stay healthy, to know their blood pressure levels, to get moving and to wear the special band to draw attention to cardiovascular diseases in women.

FC Utrecht

FC Utrecht is a professional football organisation based in the heart of the country. The iconic Stadion Galgenwaard is home to the club, which was formed in 1970 from a merger between DOS, Elinkwijk and Velox.

FC Utrecht is a club on the rise. The FC's first team has been finishing in the upper echelons of the Eredivisie for years and has been performing better than ever before in recent years. But it is not only on the pitch that the Eredivisie club from Utrecht is developing well. Off the pitch, too, the club is making its presence felt more and more often and more emphatically. FC Utrecht is a unifying factor in Utrecht, not only in the city, but throughout the province. A top football club, from the heart!
